I read somewhere (a letter he wrote) that if he could have “saved the Union” without freeing the slaves, he would have. Slavery (read “racism”) was then as much of a political smoke screen as it is now.

I tend to ramble on about non-revisionist history. I love it. It’s so much fun to explain to people how things really happened and watch as the foundation for their political paradigm erodes and crumbles before my eyes. Too much fun.
