I find this fairly incredible. A small town police chief and one of his sergeants have allegedly been fired for their associations with a tea party group.
Before It’s News reports:
On October 20, 2010 Police Chief Jack Schultz was put on 10 days unpaid suspension at which time he will be terminated. This is a man that has served this city for twenty years and acts as a fatherly figure to his community while keeping us safe.
Sergeant John Becket has Proudly & Bravely served his community for over nine years and operates as a protector and referee of the law instead of a small town speed trap cop as the mayor has publicly announced he wants in he new police department.
This is somewhat of a dilemma for me. I pretty much find publicly funded police to be repugnant. However, it is even more repugnant that a good cop should be fired simply to be replaced by a bad cop because of his political affiliations.
Good police who obey their oaths to uphold the Constitution are the last line of defense against the criminal state. Should the police obey orders to engage in tyranny, the only thing that can stop them would be armed public resistance, and no one wants to see that.
If we are going to have publicly funded police, then the good cops must be protected and rewarded.
