This is one of the funniest stories and one of the saddest stories I’ve read in a long time.
First, the funny part.
NY Daily News reports:
An incensed federal judge sentenced a racist Brooklyn woman to indefinite jury duty on Tuesday after she trashed the NYPD and minorities…
…Juror No. 799, an Asian woman in her 20s who said she works in the garment industry, was up for jury duty in the death penalty trial of Bonanno crime boss Vincent (Vinny Gorgeous) Basciano.
Asked to name three people she least admired, she wrote on her questionnaire: “African-Americans, Hispanics and Haitians.”
When the judge asked why she answered the question that way, she replied, “You always hear about them in the news doing something.”
She also declared that cops are all lazy, claiming that they sound their sirens to bypass traffic jams.
Now for the tyranny of the bench:
“She’s coming back [today], Thursday and Friday – and until the future, when I am ready to dismiss her,” Garaufis said.
You see, in a normal sane rational society such a penalty without trail is tantamount to slavery.
Forcing a person to do something they obviously don’t want to do, while threatening them with the use of force if they don’t comply, pretty much sums up slavery in a nut shell.
Further, if the woman actually does believe what she wrote, then she is useless as a potential juror who could provide an unbiased verdict.
One of the fatal flaws in the concept of “limited” government is the judiciary. Endowed with the compulsory monopoly of the vital power of deciding disputes, of ultimately deciding who can wield force and how much can be wielded, the government judiciary sits as an unchecked and unlimited tyrant.
If ever there ever was a tyrant, this judge be him.
