The clipping paths may be the key to proving this mess was "doctored"

I have yet to find any indications that any OCR applications can [or would need to for that matter] Create Clipping Masks.

Adobe Illustrator does do do those INDEPENDANTLY of user commands and niether does Adobe Photoshop. I highly doubt that there is any application that would do so.

OCR applications / Clipping Masks.

none of the several dozen pages I have read on ocr applications as much as mentions the creation of Clipping Paths.

If anyone can turn something up...either in the positive or negative on this matter we would be one small step closer to nailing the lid on this cheesey fake.

The author makes two good points that have been ignored by the anti-birthers. I noticed how quickly these justification were put out by the press.

The first one involves OCR. There is no OCR in the document so that means OCR was not used. There are no fonts. Also OCR is only used to edit an document. It leaves a very obvious digital trail. This was not the method used to create this document.

The second argument involves excusing the layers. Interesting the NeoCons on Fox News jumped on this one. Optimizing does not create layers like this. They look similar but they are random. These layers specifically relate to the information that would need to be changed to make it fit the official Obama birth story. The final giveaway is the last layer. It is a clipping path to modify the size of the final document. Only one reason to do that. It was created or assembled by a human.

If you do not have Adobe Illustrator, you can open the document in Inkscape (a freely downloadable, open-source alternative to Adobe Illustrator) and you can see it for yourself.

I just downloaded and installed Inkscape, and after toying with it for a few minutes, I could see with my own eyes that the official long form birth certificate (and yes, I downloaded the pdf straight from the White House official website) is made of several layers. So you can tell your readers to see it for themselves with Inkscape.

I can even give you the chain of commands:
- Import file (import the long form birth certificate pdf document)
- Right-click on it; you get a drop-down menu;
- Choose enter group g2993
-Right-click again, this time choose enter group g2999
- Right-click again, choose ungroup

The group numbers might be different on another machine, but it should be the same chain of commands.

You should now be able to move the different layers (one with the signature of the state registrar, one with the date "Apr 25 2011", another with the superimposed part (for lack of a better word) of the birth certificate, and finally the "background").

So my point is: anyone can do it now, no excuses, even if you do not have Adobe Illustrator on your machine (simply download Inkscape) or don't know how to use Inkscape (this was my case 25 minutes ago...).

What I don't understand (from the ATS thread) is that some people either do not understand the Adobe Illustrator argument (or more probably do not want to understand it), because they go straight to emotional/ad hominem arguments. My point is that if it can be shown that the document was made of separate layers (and it would seem that this has been shown convincingly), then it is most definitely not an original scanned image of the birth certificate. It has nothing to do with politics, being a birther or not, etc... (I am not even American), it's simply called "facts" and "logic".

I don't even know why I need to write a post like this, but it gets depressing after a while.
