The Estimated Reach Of Austrian Economic Theory

I recently looked into producing a Facebook ad campaign for my website.  In the course of producing my test ad, I found some of the data they presented me with to be quite enlightening.

The ad building tool spits out an approximate number of people that have an interest in the specified criteria you choose, which allows you to target your ad at people who have interests similar to your product.

This is a pretty good cross section of libertarian ideology:

Estimated Reach:  890,420 people

  • who live in the United States
  • age 18 and older
  • who like libertarian, anarchy, anarchocapitalism, voluntaryism, ron paul, ludwig von mises, ludwig von mises institute, ayn rand, atlas shrugged, fountainhead, murray rothbard, nullification by thomas woods, thomas e woods jr, peter schiff, walter block, hanshermann hoppe or Austrian economics
  • who are not already connected to Fascist Soup

Let us contrast that with some major neo-fascist interests:

Estimated Reach:  4,856,600 people
  • who live in the United States
  • age 18 and older
  • who like republican, republican party, democratic party, democrats, rush limbaugh, shawn hannity, bill oreilly, obamabiden, barak obama, hardball with chris mathews, rachel maddow show, george bush, george w bush, atf or dea
  • who are not already connected to Fascist Soup

Not too shabby as far as “3rd party” ideologies go.

In comparison to communist ideology:

Estimated Reach:  209,620 people

  • who live in the United States
  • age 18 and older
  • who like communist, communism, communist party usa, socialism, socialist party, socialist party usa, noam chomsky, che guevara, karl marx or karl marx philosopher
  • who are not already connected to Fascist Soup

The good news:  We outnumber the commies 4 to 1!

The really good news:  Totalitarian neo-fascist/communists only outnumber us  5.7 to 1

I’d say those are fair odds given that the truth is on our side.

Of course, this is a non-scientific survey using generalities, but I think it presents a pretty fair cross section of beliefs.  And from my own personal experience reviewing numerous political polls, I’d say those ratios aren’t too far off the mark.

Think of it this way – if every libertarian was able to convince 3 of his neo-fascist friends to support individual liberty, we could change the entire political structure of the United States by creating a majority party.
