Good thoughts. It's just that you're not really referring to democracy.

There are no democracies in the world. There hasn't been a democracy since the time of Aristotle. Democracy meant to the Greeks that "the people rule." They meant that literally. All public offices (except for their generals) were held by citizens chosen randomly by lot; not by election. Imagine the President, Supreme Court, and Congress all chosen from the citizenry by lot... That would be democratic. What we have are republics (actually fascist oligarchies) and not a hint of democracy anywhere in sight.

Democracy is often described as mob rule or "two wolves and a sheep voting on lunch" but that's what the aristocrats want us to believe. The Greeks called that ochlocracy (mob rule or majority rule). What democracy really did was put power in the hands of ordinary people and the aristocrats couldn't have that of course. So they either demonize it (starting with Plato) or slap it in front of "republic" and let us rubes vote all the while controlling who gets to run and who counts the votes... I quit using the word "democracy" completely (unless referring to Athenian democracy) once I realized I was just playing their fool.

The last thing the political class and aristocrats want is to lose power, thus they reinvented "democracy" for propaganda purposes... but what we've got is really just another brand of oligarchy.
